SPNTC Classroom Completion

Last September, Sylvia received the news that her Aunt Phyllis had passed away at the age of 92 years old. Phyllis had faithfully lived her life for Jesus, and had designated that a tithe of her estate would be given to the Lord's work. What a surprise when we were contacted by Sylvia's cousin David letting us know that $7000 was being given to support the ministry in Vanuatu!

The timing was just right for the gift to be designated to help in the completion of the SPNTC classroom. Lots of work needed to be done: Electrical outlets needed to be installed; the walls needed to be plastered and painted; the floor tiled; a dropped PVC ceiling installed; curtains and fixtures installed; and equipment like computers, printers, scanner, file cabinets, and security doors would need to be purchased.

We were so thankful for the volunteers that pitched in to do so much of the work - the Isaac's sons, Ennrich and Junior, and a high school student from one of the Port Vila churches, Christopher, joined his uncle, Pastor David Naunga. Even David and Sylvia put on their carpenter hats for the month of January. The goal was to have the classroom and district office sufficiently completed to host the SPNTC Board of Trustees meeting planned for the first week of February. Here's a few pictures of the guys at work:

The Vanuatu District Center Project

This news is a little old, but we wanted to fill in the gap between March 2017 and the next blog which will be more current.

A year ago, this is what the district center property looked like.

Preparations were underway for the construction of
the Church of the Nazarene District Center in
anticipation of the arrival of a Work and Witness team
from Papua New Guinea - the first-ever PNG W&W team!

The team of 10 people arrived in March 2017 and
poured the foundation for the new building
and left us with a promise that they would be back...

In November 2017, Tim and Karla Deuel arrived to
help us get ready for the next PNG W&W team!

What a blessing it is to have missionary partners with skill sets that make up for our lack! Tim and Karla have been serving at Kudjip in PNG for over five years. Tim helped our ni-Vanuatu Nazarenes get the foundation ready for the next phase of District Center development.

Everyday that there were men out working on the construction project,
there was a beautiful group of women preparing a hot lunch for the workers.

The cement blocks started arriving as well as other supplies.

Many times when a W&W team arrives, you can tell right away which ones just got off the plane. Most of the time, W&W team members look very differently than
the team that is ready to work with them at the project site.
But, these two teams looked and sounded very much the same!

The building was beginning to take shape!

Because the PNG W&W team arrived in December during school break,
some of our junior Nazarenes were able to give a hand too.

December tends to be a rainier month, but nothing kept these guys from moving forward.

Each day a different Nazarene Church was assigned to provide, prepare, and serve
lunch for the workers.
No one went hungry!

The generous funds provided by this PNG W&W team were sufficient to get the walls up,
and it was time for them to fly back home.
But, they left with another promise...they would return in 2018 to help us finish the job!

Please pray for:

1. God's provision for expenses and project funds for the 3rd PNG W&W team.
2. Pastor Seul and his ni-Vanuatu Nazarene team to continue the project so that it is ready for the next phase of development.
3. Revs. Peter and Jenny Isaac as they travel in PNG to raise mission awareness and encourage involvement.
4. Strong relationships to be established between the people on these teams.

November 2012 Update

This is a cheater's way of getting caught up on our blog!  We are hoping to get some pictures posted soon of the newly completed Eluklom Church of the Nazarene where our District Assembly was held the first part of November.

We were blessed to share the first Sunday of Advent with two of our Nazarene congregations.  Then in the evening, we attended an international Christian gathering to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season.  We were reminded of the darkness of those days just before Christ was born on earth.  These verses from Colossians 1 captured our attention and led us to glorify the LORD for his wonderful gift to us:  “…the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints.  To them (you and us) God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (26-27).”  What a marvelous message we have been given to carry to those in the darkness – a message filled with hope, light, and life!

May the Lord reveal the beauty and reality of his coming in fresh, new insights as we celebrate Jesus!

Have a blessed Christmas!

Eluklom Church Building Project

The cement foundation and floor were almost
completed by the end of February.

The Eluklom Nazarene Church out at Eratap is growing fast!  This congregation is only about 4 years old, but is very active in reaching out to the villages around it.  They were challenged at the District Assembly last November to host the assembly this year.

They knew the shelter that they had been meeting in wouldn't be big enough, so they plunged into building a new cement block church.

This is what the building looked like about a month ago.

The family that started the church has a business of making cement blocks, as well as timber and other things.  They have finished the walls and are now ready to put the roof on.  The estimate is that the roofing irons and trusses will come to about US$20,000.  Each sheet of corrugated tin will cost roughly $100 and they have calculated around 60 sheets.  They are praying and we are praying along with them for the Lord to provide for this need.

John Kalorus - the father of six sons who own
the cement block business, also SPNTC student

We are very proud of their efforts, as they have sacrificed to provide the materials and have done all the construction themselves.  Most of the guys working on the church are SPNTC students, so when they are attending a class they put the church building on hold in order to dedicate themselves to their studies.

Just last week, we received a donation of $5000 (USD) towards the completion of the church which will encourage these hard working folks to continue to pray and believe that God will provide!  If you would like to know more about how you can help in this project, please contact us.  You can e-mail us at dspotter@reachone.com or by clicking in the "Contact Us" box in the upper left part of this page.
